Rwanda Genocide -- United Nations Court finds those responsible guilty

The United Nations war court for Rwanda has sentenced the brother in law of the forma Rwandan president Juvenal Habyarimana to 20 years in prison.

The court also sentenced to life imprisonment a former army colonel Theoneste Bagosora and two other ex-army officers to life imprisonment on charges of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes, acquitting a fourth officer, Gratien Kabiligi.

The Rwandan genocide of 1994 was one of the most atrocious, Africa had ever seen. Gruesome Crime was perpetrated by one tribe turning against another, resulting in the deaths of thousands.
The majority Hutus tribe deliberately set out to exterminate Tutsis, resulting in the deaths of nearly a million people over a 100 day period.

A sluggish United Nations Court has taken nearly 12 years to come to this just verdict. Rather late than never, the International Criminal court must be applauded for indicting the perpetrators of this maraca.

As I remember I saw a few months ago news that France is responsible for genocide in Rwanda.

Kagame accused France of it.

How did the UN miss its own role in turning civilian Tutsi over to the Hutto (or was it the reverse?) when they knew they were going to be killed?

Take a look at the horror displayed in the picture above and understand that that is what awaits Africa everyday until we realize that Kwame' Nkrumah's prophetic books "Africa Must Unite" and "Neo-Colonialism the last stage of Imperialism" were not just good reads. They were a plan of action. People of African decent will continue to die needlessly... Read More until Black Unity and self-determination become more important than tribalism. Be it Hutu vs.Tutsi or Crips vs. Bloods the people will die because there is no vision. So let us Pan-Africans create that Vision that saves African lives all over the globe. Peace and Blessings

It is often said justice delayed is justice denied, but in this case there was every reason to take time and investigate the issues. Justice has been served and this should be a sound warning to all those perpetrating such events on the mother continent.

Well said Ayo. That was an impeccable assessment. It is always difficult to summarise matters in sound bite format but I think you did this very well. Clearly the message which these International Tribunals mean to send to Regime rulers is a stern one which, we all hope, will prevent grand scale atrocities in the future

Is this enough for these men or is it that criminals benefit for committing crimes?

Its good to hear that justice is being divided out to the "untouchables". Hopefully those in Darfur will take note.

I am so thankful that justice has been served finally. On the other hand, I don't agree with Sean's comment that says Africans don't have vision. I believe Africans do have visions but the only problem is we do not know how to put it into action. By the grace of God we will one day. Thanks to the UN court for justice.

Interestingly there are links between the Mugabe regime and the perpetrators of the Rwandan genocide; after all, Mugabe et al. got away with a mini-genocide of their own in the 80s. See http://www.pambazuka.org/en/category/features/52845

Great blog! Do you have any tips for aspiring writers? I'm hoping to start my own site soon but I'm a little lost on everything.
Would you propose starting with a free platform like Wordpress
or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out
there that I'm completely overwhelmed .. Any tips? Many thanks!
